Denise Atkinson, Anishinaabe ikwe (English: Ojibwe woman) from the Red Rock First Nation was raised in a traditional land-based Anishinaabeg home having spent her formative years alongside her maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. As an entrepreneur, she has immersed herself in all aspects of SMEs, having co-founded Tea Horse, an artisanal tea and wild rice company that has created and produces an industry-first selection of custom roasted wild rice and tea blends.
Denise believes in the importance of promoting and growing Indigenous food and foodways and contributing to the success of other Indigenous businesses. She is an active member of Indigenous Tourism Ontario (ITO), the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), and the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
